About

Easy daily management of stress and personalized recommendations for future college life.

StressLess offers a personalized, easy-to-understand interpretation of physiological signs of stress in our day-to-day lives. By using wearable technology accessible through a smart watch, StressLess aggregates and parses through data from sensors embedded in the watch. Using this rich data, we are able to pinpoint specific moments when users are most or least stressed. In addition, with seamless integration with users’ calendar, we also help identify causes of stress and mitigate future stress by giving actionable personalized recommendations.

What's the problem:

College students are in constant stress caused by multiple factors.

By studying stakeholder value flow and SET/PESTLE, we came to a POG that "College students need causes of their stress, better management of their daily stress and personalized suggestions about their daily schedule."

Research Insights & Affinity Diagram

As a conclusion of the interview results, this affinity diagram is grouping the interview notes. We found that most of college students are under a lot of stress, and this kind of of stress often has great impact on their personal life and academic performance.

We selected three targeted/potential users to create several personas that worth studying. These students are at different stages of their university life, which means that the causes of their stress will be significantly different.

User Journey Map

This user journey map integrated with storyboards clearly demonstrated user actions, touch points, needs and opportunities in diffirent phases of problem-solving, which includes encountering problem, searching for solutions and solving the problem.

Scenario

She is taking five courses this semester, and is a member of a sorority. With a packed schedule, she always finds herself under a lot of stress. Midterm week is coming, and she is very stressed with everything happening at the same time.

Goals & Expectations

Stacy needs help with organizing and prioritize her midterm schedule. She wants to have her focus on the most important things and stress less.

Wireframing & User Flow

As our first iteration, wireframe illustrates the basic ideas of our product. We made paper prototypes and used “Wizard of Oz” as a testing method of the product function. In this stage, we’re not designing the appearance, but the information structure of the interface, which is the base of the interface interaction.

Most of the interviewees chose option A, because it has a more clear division between the data and the insights. What's more is that option B is using a card style to hold the chart and data which might mislead people to click on it when there is nothing more to show.

Most of the interviewees chose option A, because it has only two obvious parts - the calendar and the events, whereas option B has way to many sections (divided by colors), making the interface not clean.

The user can set/save the basic health records and explore for more metrics to add into the favorites. Device connection is included in the settings.

Takeaways

We are working with people to help other people. We need to take a lot of aspects into account before, during and after the creation a service. We need to be aware of the social environment when doing research, be empathetic when interacting with potential target and understanding people’s needs, be resourceful when working with team members and brainstorming ideas, be humble when given feedback and suggestions and be flexible when there is the need to pivot. Working with team definitely helped me work smarter and more efficiently as it was also a great chance to learn from other team members with interdisciplinary backgrounds.
